Tarn Flats
One site that is under investigation is called Tarn Flats (unofficial name). This is an ice free area located between 74°54' and 75°01'S and  162°30' and 162°48'E. This site has been the subject of some Italian studies on permafrost, vegetation, rock weathering, lake hydrology, and general geomorphology. Using a site with this kind of background information would be of great advantage for the LGP. Click for maps and photos for more information on this site.

Gondwana Station
The German station Gondwana is located in Terra Nova Bay approximately 10km North of the Italian  Mario Zucchelli Station. The base is used intermittently and has good marine access. Thanks to the kind offer of the German programme, the base will be used in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons for terrestrial and marine research. Photos of the base can be found in the photo library.
